Power Banks on China Domestic Flights: Check the Unit, Mark and Recall

A power bank accepted on an earlier international journey may still fail a China domestic-flight check. The useful preparation is inspecting the exact unit you intend to carry and checking the current carrier rules, rather than relying on its brand, age or a previous security experience.

Identify exact unit → Check marking and recall → Confirm current flight conditions

Start with the domestic-flight notice

CAAC’s English notice, published in July 2025, describes restrictions introduced on 28 June 2025 for domestic flights. It prohibits power banks without CCC markings, with unclear markings, or belonging to recalled models or batches. That rule concerns several separate properties of the item. A familiar brand does not resolve whether a particular model or batch was recalled. A capacity number does not replace the required marking. Check the current CAAC and airline material before a later journey, since this article explains a dated notice and cannot promise that aviation requirements will remain identical.

Inspect the actual item rather than its listing

Take the power bank out of its case and read the physical label. Identify the model, relevant electrical information and any required conformity marking. A seller’s photograph or a box from another unit does not establish what the item in your bag says. If printing is worn or unreadable, do not assume staff can infer it from the color or shape. Keep the unit’s identity clear enough to compare with a manufacturer’s official recall announcement. Avoid attaching an imitation marking or otherwise modifying a label to make an uncertain product appear compliant.

Check recall status at model and batch level

The CAAC notice responds in part to product recalls and certification changes. Look for the manufacturer’s current recall information using the exact model and batch identifiers. Similar products can have different outcomes, so a headline about a brand is an incomplete answer in either direction. Follow official instructions if the unit is affected; do not use the absence of visible damage as evidence of safety. Capacity, quantity, packing location and in-flight handling may be governed by additional carrier requirements. Resolve those questions with the airline instead of treating one satisfactory CCC mark as the whole dangerous-goods assessment.

Remove dependency on the disputed item

Plan how the essential phone functions will remain available if the unit cannot travel. Charge devices before departure and keep non-sensitive destination details accessible without requiring a continuous connection. Ask the airport about any official storage or surrender arrangement before relying on it; availability and retrieval conditions can vary. Do not leave an item hidden in the terminal or hand it to an unknown person. A cheaper replacement purchased in a hurry is still a product needing its own inspection. The best time to resolve uncertainty is while you can still choose to leave the unit at home.

Illustrative bag review

A visitor plans an international arrival followed by a domestic flight. The power bank used abroad has an unreadable label. Instead of assuming the international sector proves acceptance, the visitor checks the domestic airline’s current instructions and decides not to depend on that unit. A fully charged phone and accessible arrival details reduce the consequence of leaving it behind.

Questions that come up

Does a CCC mark guarantee acceptance?

It addresses one part of the dated notice. Recall status and other aviation requirements still matter. Check the exact unit against the current carrier instructions, including capacity, packing and permitted use.

Can I use a photograph of a compliant label?

A photograph of a different unit or seller listing does not identify the item you carry. Staff assess the actual product and applicable rules. Do not manufacture or alter conformity labels to try to resolve an uncertain item.
